Kirito was part of troupe of performers, who were also thieves. While Kirito wasn’t particularly skilled in theft, his role was to protect and defend his allies should something go wrong. Kirito was in this troupe for years and they were almost never caught, if they were Kirito handled the situation with ease. Eventually the troupe was actually summoned to perform in front of the seven council members in Mithrendain, an eladrin city. This was a huge deal for them because performing for the seven could turn into a regular gig and they would no longer need resorte to thievery. Unfortunately, during the performance one of the members was caught stealing by a guard. Immediately the troupe was considered thieves and surrounded by the guards, the performance came to a halt. Kirito, acting quickly before the guards surrounded him too, lunged at the head council member sitting at the table, making it past all the other guards, even the head council’s personal guard. Sword at the head council members throat, he demanded that his troupe be released. The head council member, an Eladrin named Aramil, made an offer, Kirito’s life for his troupe. Kirito accepted but the Aramil, instead of killing Kirito, made him apart of his guard, impressed by his skill. Kirito trained in the elite corps of defenders of the city guard. Kirito had not been in the guard for too long (almost a year), and was in the final stages of training before he was sent to investigate a potential threat in the forest. This lead to a dryad chase, which a Wilden (who turned out to be Twilight Sparkle) happened to also be chasing. The dryad lead them both into a fey crossing where they lost the dryad and eventually met Professor Emere in the mortal plane, who made the offer to help both back into the feywild if they helped his adventuring party with a quest.
